CoInnovate 2015

“Building partnerships. Driving Innovation.”

As CoInnovate 2015 kicked off in Cardiff last week, innovators came from across the world to examine the best practices and strategies being used in open innovation today. Each day, Maven witnesses the tremendous power that innovation and true collaboration can bring. We followed along closely to the discussions at CoInnovate, as the discussions revolved around the current and future challenges facing the three distinct areas: digitalization, healthcare, and defense and security.

The conference was created around the concept that, “all organizations, large and small, need to work together and align resources in developing new technologies and bringing products to market faster.” The two day event, June 23rd and 24th, included innovative  elevator pitches from startups, investor meet-and-greets, and presentations from industry leaders such as Dr. Tom Crick and Professor Roy Sandbach. Dr. Crick examined the use of big and open data for innovation policymaking while Professor Sandbach redefined ‘innovation’ as “matching what’s possible with what’s needed…to create economic value or social good or both.” (CoInnovate). In the Pitch! Live portion of the conference,  a variety of rapidly-growing SME’s such as Accelero-Digital and Echosec pitched their technologies, capabilities and products to industry giants for valuable feedback and review, fueling fresh collaboration and knowledge-sharing for both parties.
